The Urban Spine as a social and spatial connector

Every aspect of the design aims to cultivate a deep connection between the profane and the spiritual

Built by a Kakatiyan ruler in the 13th Century, the Ramappa Lake and Temple are iconic for the local community. The lake is situated about a kilometre from the temple to provide irrigation to the farmers. The site also serves as a place for recreation for the village folk.

The conceptual master plan, binds the temple and the lake together through a covered promenade. Rows of trees on either side of the walkway provide shade for pedestrians and improve accessibility.

The design proposal recommends the inclusion of a venerated garden, a lotus pond and a sacred grove.

The project is receptive to the aspirations of the people and aims to enhance their ease of access. The flowers and plants grown in the garden can be used for worship by the temple goers. The promenade ends in a stepped ghat, proposed to be restored at the edge of the lake. It provides easy access to the water throughout the year irrespective of the water levels in the lake
